As the economic globalization further develops, countries are increasinglyinterdependent, with extensive exchanges in various areas, such as politics, economyand culture. But because different countries differ in history, culture and language, there are some difficulties in international exchanges and communication.Interpreters serve as bridges, working to narrow these differences and promotecommunication and cooperation between different countries. However, in the processof their work, interpreters are often hindered by some linguistic and cultural barriers, which seem quite impossible to overcome through interpretation. The present paper aims at the analysis of linguistic and culturaluntranslatability in mutual interpretation between Chinese and English, by providingtheoretical foundation and some examples taken from interpretation class and fieldinterpretation. Based on the analysis of untranslatable phenomenon, relevant copingstrategies are also be discussed. By both studying the phenomenon and puttingforward relevant solutions, the paper will help interpreters deal with untranslatabilityproperly and promote effective information exchanges.
