The Adaptation And Selection Of Translators In Chinese-English Translation

With the continuous development of globalization and the deepening of opening-up,China is enhancing communication with other countries with unprecedented vitality.More and more foreign friends develop a strong interest in Chinese culture,while China is promoting its culture to the world with further open attitude.As non-profit places,museums provide platforms for people across the world to exchange cultures.Naturally,Chinese museums play important roles in promoting the development of Chinese culture.Nowadays,the translation of texts of Chinese museums enjoys great significance but faces many challenges.This is a translation practice report,taking the texts of Shanxi Museum as the research corpus,aiming to deeply discuss some difficulties the author has met in the process of translation and her choices to solve them.The theory of translation as adaptation and selection studies translation activities from a macro perspective,which has operational and explanatory power for translation practice of different subjects.The translation of Shanxi Museum's materials is suitable for taking a macro translation theory as a guide because of its abundant materials and various types.This translation practice report,based on literature analysis and case analysis and guided by the theory of translation as adaptation and selection from the three dimensions(linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension),illustrates how the author in the process of translation has done selective adaptation and adaptive selection.Through the study,the author deeply realizes that translation practice is a complex activity,which means translators need to consider various factors of translation activity to select the best translation method.At the same time,the author also hopes that this report would provide referential suggestion for the author and other translators about translation in the future.
