With the goal of building world-class universities, many Chinese universities have attached greater importance to foreign publicity. However, the truth is that translation quality of many publicity materials is not good enough to achieve good publicity effect, which is a valuable topic worth discussion.Based on the author's translation practice of the fifth chapter of the Evaluation of Zhejiang University's Undergraduate Education, this report mainly explores translation strategies and methods adopted by the author with the guidance of Translation Theory of Adaptation and Selection put forward by Hu Gengshen. In three dimensions of the theory, namely linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, many "adaptive selections" were made to improve translation quality and achieve the purpose of foreign publicity.Through case studies, this report summarizes six translation methods, including conversion, restructuring, amplification, generalization, etc. It is found that the translation dilemma of foreign publicity in institutions of higher education mainly stems from the differences between Chinese and western universities in ideological education, campus culture and administrative system.Meanwhile, the problems of translation discipline construction in Chinese universities also exacerbate this dilemma. To provide translation of high quality, translators are supposed to pay attention to the differences between English and Chinese,"adapt" to the "translation ecological environment" composed of many factors, and "select"appropriate translation strategies in multiple dimensions,so as to convey original information, fill cultural gaps, achieve communicative effect of foreign publicity.Translators also should be aware that the three dimensions are closely connected with each other, which requires translators to think about the adaptive selections in these dimensions comprehensively and make "optimal choices".
