This article is based on the research of XI’AN NO.1subway’s public art and visualimage, using Xi’An’s NO.1subway as the research subject. Comprehensively analyzethe cultural characteristics of each subway station, and summarize the symbiosis,through demonstrating the concept of public art of urban subway and visual image,outlining the successful cases of both domestic and international. By using the basictheories of Arts and symbiosis as a guide, applying research to explore thecharacteristics and culture of the urban public art generally, it demonstrates thecontribution that the design of public art makes to the city’s visual characteristics andsocial function.After the practical application, we have come to a couple conclusions. It is significantfor a city to have the design of public art and visual image, because it helps build thesubway lines and sites’ identification. It is also an important factor for improving thevisual familiarity of travelers.The using of urban public art, not only enhances the recognition efforts of urban visualimage, but highlights the temperament of the city.From the perspective research of the urban visual image, this article focuses on theprominent characteristics of the urban culture. It also discusses about how much thesymbiotic interaction of urban public art and visual image can contribute to theconstruction of the subway. According to the research of the important factors thatrecognize the urban subway public art, such as, urban diversity, culture, and space, itsummarizes the relations between the factors and how it can improve the effectiveness of each other. The overall grasp of the design of Xi’An’s No.1subway public art hashelp with the achievement of creating urban visual image.As the carrier of visual information and cultural art, public art plays a very importantrole at the formation of the urban visual image. It not only delivers the message, butalso reflects the visual sense of beauty of the city’s history, art, and culture. Theharmony, unity, and coexistence of urban public art and visual image, have become adriving force to help create a much better environment.
