This paper is a translation project report. The source text of the translation project is Lifelong learning in the Knowledge Economy, the fifth chapter of Learning Democracy in School and Society written by Gert Biesta. The main contents of the source text include different definitions of lifelong learning in different countries and periods, reasons for changes in definitions, the relationships between and among education, lifelong learning and democratic citizenship as well as the development trends of lifelong learning in the future. This translation report consists of five parts: The first chapter is task description, which gives a brief introduction to the background, objective and significance of the translation project. The second chapter is a brief introduction of the author and the source text. The third chapter takes Reiss’ text type theory as guidance, probing into the translation of terminologies and long and complicated sentences, which frequently puzzled the translator. The fourth chapter describes translation methods and cases studies, which mainly analyzes the translation of terminologies and long and complicated sentences. Translation methods used in the translation process include: filling-up translation, amplification, division and recasting. In the end, a summary of the lessons and enlightenment gained in the translation is presented, together with the unresolved issues.
