Translation Report On How Canadians Communicate Ⅲ-Contexts Of Canadian Popular Culture(Chapter Four)

This article is a translation report. The translator chose the fourth chapter of HOW CANADIANS COMMUNICATE III--Contexts of Canadian Popular Culture to translate. The main content of that chapter is the development of Canadian film and television industry and problems existing in the industry. In this age of globalization, culture is being globalized too. Under the impact of western culture, especially American culture, it is important for countries like China and Canada to maintain its culture independence. In keeping national culture security, cultural imperialism and cultural hegemony is of great importance. In this respect, Canada has made great achievements and set a good example for us to follow.The article consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the background information of the translation project, purposes of the translation project and the significance of the translation project. The second chapter offers a short introduction to the author and the source text(ST). The third chapter includes difficulties in the translation process and the correspondent translation theories guiding the translation process. Firstly, the differences of cohesive ties between English and Chinese cause great trouble in understanding the original text. In order to better understand the original text, those differences should be mastered. Secondly, the ST is an article on culture and media which contain so many terminologies, so some words are difficult to translate. In chapter four, those difficulties are carefully analyzed and relevant methods are put forward in the translation report. In the last part, a summary of the whole translation process and this report is given and unsolved problems during the translation process are also discussed.
