This is a translation project report on Chapter One and Two from Beyond Positive Thinking, written by Dr. Robert Anthony, with Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the theoretical basis. In the first chapter, POSITIVE THINKING- NEGATIVE THINKING – RIGHT THINKING, the author identifies the kinds of thinking. In the second chapter, THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU, the author tells us how to evaluate ourselves correctly. The text type of this book is formal and social-scientific. According to Peter Newmark, this book is informative and communicative translation theory applies to this kind of text. Communicative translation theory attaches importance to recipients’ understandings and responses. Translators are required to reorganize the language structure so as to produce accurate and fluent translations. The communicative translation theory just meets the translation requirements of this kind of text type, which serves the target readers and shift foreign language composition to their own language and culture as much as possible. This translation project is based on the communicative translation theory.
