Purpose In order to test structural validity and empirical validity of the Chinese version of the Personal Globe Inventory for Short(PGI-SC), and to know the relationship of the undergraduates’ vocational interests and their majors, We conducted this survey.Methods 3221 Chinese college students were administered a Chinese version of the Personal Globe Inventory for Short(PGI-SC), and the major commitment scale of the undergraduates, the participants consist of freshman to senior which were from five different universities. Finally 3056 questionnaires were effective.Results 1, Reliability analysis. Internal consistency and split half reliability of estimates were calculated, Internal consistency estimates of the whole interests subscale, the whole competence subscale, and the integral scale were.905,.916,.916 respectively. Split half reliability of the whole interests subscale, the whole competence subscale, and the integral scale were.871,.886,.889 respectively.2, Validity analysis Structure validity We conducted the randomization test of the hypothesized order relations(Rounds, Tracey, & Hubert, 1992) to explicitly examine the circular order of the eight-type interest structure of the PGI-SC in the Chinese context. The matrix of the eight interest types obtained in the current study was found to meet 271 hypothesized comparisons out of 288. The current study revealed a CI of.89, indicating that a high amount of hypothesized order predictions were met. When testing the statistical significance of the 271 met comparisons, the present study found a P value of.0004, this indicated the eight-type interest structure was fit the The ring structure. Discrimination validity Take the forty major categories as the grouping variables, ten interest types as the dependent variables, variance analysis was conducted, and the results showed the major categories have significant differences in every vocational interest scores(p<0.05,p<0.01,p<0.001).Criterion validity The participates were divided into high group and low group with the boundary value of the mean score of major commitment scale, and then conduct T test, the results showed that high achievers and low achievers have significantly different in each interest type(p<0.05,p<0.01,p<0.001). 3,Choose the high achievers in major commitment scale, the mean scores of ten sub-scales in each domain were used to establish the searching codes of undergraduate professional domains in China. Finally, 40 professional domains and 12 disciplines were formed by vocational interests and thus the results support the empirical validity of the PGI-SC.Conclusion 1,The reliability coefficient of PGI-SC reach the standard of psychometrics; 2, Randomization test of the hypothesized order relations showed the structure validity of PGI-SC was good. Different vocational interest score can discriminate different major types; 3, The higher score a undergrudate obtain, the more interested in his major he will be, and he will be willing to devote more time and energy. Therefore, the vocational interest types of the high achievers in major commitment scale can be used as the professional quality of the essential interest. Based on the data analysis and theoretical analysis, the major categories and disciplines searching codes can be used as a guidance for high school graduates in choosing the major direction when they fill in university specialty.
