A Research On The Markers Of Disposal Construction In Xiang Dialect

This thesis is on the research of markers of disposal construction’‘把[ba]”,“拿[na]”,“(?)[lao]",’‘担[dan]",“帮[bang]","捉[zhuo]" in Xiang dialect in Hunan province. By employing several study methods:micro-macro view, synchronycombining with diachrony and dialect geography distribution, this research tries to thoroughly and systematically explore those markers of disposal construction in Xiang Dialect.This thesis makes up of eight chapters. The first is introduction, putting forward the relative questions and then introducingthebeing situation, object, content, method, significance and theory, corpus and other related issues if the research.The second chapter to the seventh is the main body which, respectively, makes a special study of markers of disposal construction“把[ba]”,“拿[na]”,“(?)[lao]”,“担[dan]”,“帮[bang]”,“捉[zhuo]”in Xiang dialect and each of them consists of four parts:the first part, describing all the non-disposal marker functions of those disposal constructions, as a completion for their disposal marker function; the second one, making an systematic geographical distributionanalysis of these markers in Xiang dialect even in the whole Chinese dialects,from which it can conclude that the marker of disposal construction“拨[bo]”in Wu dialect and“分[pun44]”in Hakka dialect are related with“把[ba]”,even the marker of disposal construction’‘畀[pei]”and“摆[bai]”in Gan dialect have relationship with“拜[bai]”in HuaiBei dialect; maybe the marker of disposal construction’‘搦[nuo]”in Min, Yue, Gan dialects and some other dialects is related to the marker of disposal construction“拿[na]”it is also proved that"n[ta45]" in the dialect of Hunan Guiyang is related to "担[dan]"; "抓�'[zhua da]" in the Gan dialect of Hunan PingJiang is related to’‘捉[zhuo],,；“(?)[lau11]”,“摎[lau45]”,“口[lon11]”inHakka dialect are closely related to“(?)[lau]”；thirdly, diachronically exploring these markers of disposal construction, it is proved that the source of each marker of disposal construction varies with the changes of syntactic structure and semantic evolution. What’s more, the markers of disposal construction“拿[na]”and“(?)[lau]’’are related with the analogy mechanism, but“担[dan]”comes from the combination of the semantic evolution and analogy. And“帮[bang]”is related to the update mechanism; fourthly, exploring the disposal sentences produced by those markers of disposal construction, it is found that there is a common base formula of each marker of disposal construction, namely“[A]+把[ba]/拿[na]/(?)[lao]/担[dan]/帮[bang]/捉[zhuo]+B+VP". But there are subtle differences between their derivative formulas, and moreover it even appears two markers of disposal construction present in the same disposal sentences, such as the co-occurrence of the markers of disposal construction“担[dan]”and“把[ba]”The disposal sentence of the markers of disposal construction"把[ba]"even relates to the focus, however, its focus is not absolute, which depends on specific situation.The last chapter is about conclusion which discusses the geographical distribution of the markers of disposal construction in Hunan dialect on the whole, basing on the modern Chinese dialect’s link and the relative marker components of those markers of disposal constructionin Xiang dialect, and summarizes the sources of markers of disposal construction and formsdisposal sentences, and then points out the shortcomings and prospect of this research.
