Gold and silver wares which are very important artifacts in Sui and Tang Dynasty were used only by the royal families and aristocracy. They were considered as a symbol of status. However, the ceramic wares were used by all the people. In order to follow the trend, many kilns in China began to imitate the shape, ornamentation and technique of gold and silver wares. On the basis of previous studies of other scholars, this paper will research the effects of gold and silver on ceramic and related problems.The author collects a lot of gold and silver wares as well as ceramic wares excavated from archaeological discoveries, compares their shape, ornamentation, decorative techniques and other aspects, and analyzes the characteristics of ceramic wares which imitate gold and silver wares. Meanwhile, the author discusses the reasons of imitation, the time and geographical issues of these ceramic wares, and the Chinese and Western cultures on them.
