With the progress of urbanization, golf has developed rapidly in China as a recreational sport. China’s golf population who wants to know and master this sport has also increased considerably, which leads to increasing demand for domestic golf courses. However, golf course design and construction were brought to China from foreign countries which have long history on golf development and rich experience in course design. Therefore, Chinese golf course designers need to improve their design level by studying the unique design concepts and excellent design works of world-renown designers and making innovations. Moreover, lots of domestic golf courses are designed or built under Sino-foreign collaboration, so the translation of Chinese and English articles on golf course has great practical significance.This translation report analyzes the language features of Chinese and English articles on golf courses such as using a lot of terms and vivid words, and discusses how to translate golf terms. It also compares the expression habit of English and Chinese and concludes the differences between them from five aspects such as “static and dynamic”, “active and passive”, “hypotaxis and parataxis” and “topic-prominent and subject-prominent”. Moreover, this report explains via translation examples how to apply five translation skills into translation practice to make translations conform more to the thinking and expressing habit of the target language.
