The background of deepening and popularization of international Chinese teaching highlights the status of Chinese characters teaching. In Chinese teaching theory, Chinese character is universally evaluated as the most difficult part to write, learn and remember. The research and development based on personalized Chinese character teaching and learning methods is a hot topic for the academia all the time. This article contributed some relative conclusions about Chinese character learning strategy of Azerbaijan students of Confucius Institute at Baku State University. The data based on scientific and reasonable investigation and analysis, through which to offer some enlightenment for the development of nation-specific Chinese language textbooks and Chinese characters teaching methods. This article can be divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction of research, which specified the motivation, status quo, aims, methods and perspectives. Based on the status quo of the research outcomes of Chinese characters learning strategy of Azerbaijan students, we found that the articles with the same topic can be barely found, however, this might because Azerbaijan is a small country. The population and amount of students are both limited on some extent.The second part is about the process and result of Chinese character background of Azerbaijan students, this includes the recognition and inclination. The data based on this make a pavement for later analysis on Chinese character learning strategy.The third part is about the process and result of investigation on Chinese character learning strategy of Azerbaijan students, the data comes from the collected questionnaires, which improved the reality and credibility and assured a more objective result. Generally speaking, the strategy most frequently used is application strategy, the next is stroke strategy, what they few used are memory strategy、sound and meaning strategy、review strategy and font strategy. From the perspective of different learning level, in the primary stage, the memory strategy is more frequently used, they inclined to write the Chinese characters again and again. With the deepen of learning, they resort to the memory of component and structure of Chinese character to help distinguish the difference, this phenomenon comes with the decreasing of mistakes. And the application strategy、sound and meaning strategy more frequently used in the second and third stages.The fourth part mainly introduced the statistic of Chinese language learning strategy and Chinese character learning strategy, the data of this section collected by the notebooks and test papers. Through the comparison of the error rate and Chinese character learning strategy, we found that there is an obvious difference in the term of Chinese character inclination of students. Finally, this part illustrates different features during different learning period through summarization.The fifth part displays the reflections of Chinese character learning strategy from the perspective of teaching, and give some relative suggestions on teaching, which includes the development of nation-specific Chinese textbooks、student-specific Chinese textbooks, and nation-specific drills book.The sixth part is the conclusion, this section tries to summarize the main opinions of the whole article, and gives some suggestions on Chinese character teaching of Azerbaijan students, then points out the shortness of this study.
