| This project report focuses on the translation of Chapter 4: Principles of Global Community of The ABCs of Human Survival: A Paradigm for Global Citizenship. It is one of books in Global Peace Studies published by Athabasca University Press in conjunction with the Consortium for Peace Studies at the University of Calgary in 2010. This book covers 15 years’ research of Arthur Clark, a professor at the University of Calgary: how to improve global health and happiness within the framework of international law, how to realize the dream of lasting peace and the world citizenship, and how to achieve international morality.According to Reiss’ text typology, the source text can be put into category informative-operative text. Informative text does plain communication of facts, information, knowledge, opinion, etc. When source text is informative, in translation the translator should attempt to represent it faithfully and completely. In operative text, both its content and form are subordinate to an extralinguistic effect that the text is designed to achieve. The translator of operative text should create an equivalent effect among target readers. Under the guidance of translation principles and strategies mentioned above, this report illustrates difficulties and solutions in the process of translation, and the translator tries to find out translation methods for an informative-operative text. |
