Health Psychology:Topics in Applied Psychology is a textbook written for American undergraduate students in psychology major.The translator selects part of chapter 1 and chapter 5 of the textbook as the source text of the translation practice.The part in chapter 1 gives an introduction on how to use this book and the method for essay writing-Chapter 5 makes an explanation about the influence of the stress coping mechanism and social support on health and psychology.The translation practice is based on the text type theory proposed by Katharina Reiss.According to Reiss' text classification,the original text of the translation practice contains both informative text and operative text.The informative text lays stress on the content of the text.The primary purpose of the translation is to ensure the correct transmission of the information.The translation of this kind of text should convey the accurate and full information in simple and explicit words.The purpose of the operative text is to make an appeal to readers or recipients.It focuses on the appellative function of the text.The translation of this type of text should be translated with adaptive and equivalent methods.The translation practice report mainly makes an analysis of the two types of text and their translation.Besides,the translation practice report makes an discussion on the translation methods and techniques used in the translation and introduces the whole translation process.In addition,the report also provides some practical experience of translating psychology textbook.
