Since the Central Government of China started to deepen its reform and opening up and implement the “go west” strategy, Chongqing has made impressive achievements in areas like economy, politics, and culture, and all of these have turned Chongqing into a force to be reckoned with both domestically and globally. A good number of foreign countries have been hoping to know more about Chongqing and also seek opportunities to exchange and cooperate with this fourth municipality of China. The Chongqing Government Work Report(CGWR), as the most informative and authoritative document released by the Chongqing Municipal Government, summarizes the overall development made in the previous year and sets forth plans and policies for major tasks for the next year, and plays a significant role in spreading its cultural influence and local image. The author selects for this translation project the third part of the CGWR as the original text, in which the Chongqing Government sets forth the plans and the policies for the government’s work in 2015. This translation report contains five parts: Chapter One introduces the background of this translation report, including its original text and significance. It also briefly explains the basic framework of the whole translation project report. In Chapter Two, the author gives an introduction to Reiss’ s text typology theory, which is to be adopted as the guiding theory of this translation project. At the same time, the application of the theory in the report is also discussed in detail. Chapter Three gives an overview of the language style of the source text. The author shall give some examples to show the characteristics of this government work report from the lexical, syntactic, and rhetorical levels. Chapter Four is the main body of this report. It studies the application of translation strategies in dealing with the CGWR. The author shall also demonstrate some examples of the translation approaches and techniques for solving the translation problems. Chapter Five draws a conclusion on the basis of the report above. It summarizes up the problems that need to be solved and the suggestions for further translation studies.
