Narrative Research On The Historical And Cultural Documentary Of “Beijing Opera”

Historical and cultural documentaries have been an important part of our documentaries development in recent years. The emerged documentaries in recent years such as "The Resurrection Legion", "The Palace Museum", "Rise of Great Nation", "The Summer Palace", "Dunhuang", etc., act as a represent role of historical and cultural documentaries, leading the development of the documentary. The broadcast of "Peking Opera" on June 2013 is the first focus documentary project of the CCTV, and it also act as a historical and cultural documentary masterpiece in recent years.Firstly, the article give a summarize and research on the concept of the historical and cultural documentaries, its classification and development, the narrative feature and the narrative mode of documentaries, and the narrative mode of China’s historical and cultural documentaries. Secondly, the article gave a deeper level perspective research on the narrative mode of the documentary "Peking Opera" and its new exploration of the narrative mode. After analysis and comparison to the other historical and cultural documentaries which are representative, the article repute that the documentary "Peking opera" has its own unique style in the use of narrative elements, specifically in the commentary, pictures and music. In addition, the narrative strategies of "Peking Opera" narrative are also diverse, reflected in these aspects such as the popular narrative content, the contextual narrative logic and the narrative meaning. Meanwhile, the "Peking Opera" has a more comprehensive narrative point of view, reflected in taking into account on the grand narrative and the microscopic narrative, and as a result it realized the history reproduction by the microscopic narrative. Finally, the article consider that although the new exploration of narrative mode of "Peking Opera" has its gains and losses, it still full of innovative, and it is a feasible trend for the development of historical and cultural documentaries of China, with the distinctive characteristics and elegant aesthetic style.This paper argues that China’s historical and cultural documentaries assume a responsibility to spread traditional Chinese culture and a task of building a culture of power. "Peking Opera" is a large-scale documentary film of the country in recent years, and it also condensed the wisdom and sweat of the documentary film makers. What’s more, it reflects a new level of China’s historical and cultural documentaries. The "Peking Opera" not only give a contribution to the dissemination of Peking Opera, but also promote China’s excellent traditional culture. Therefore, the research on the narrative mode of "Peking Opera" has a certain practical significance.
