Proverbs have a long history, and it is the summary and crystallization of peoples lives and experiences. It is like shells in the sand, which becomes pearl after years of precipitation--- proverb that embodies the peoples wisdom in their lives. To share the value of learning a foreign language well, in this paper, the author compares the proverbs in Mongolian and English languages from such different aspects as the factors affecting Mongolian and English proverbs understanding, and figures of speech used in the proverbs. And in each aspect, the author uses some examples to illustrate the points.In addition, this paper also analyzes the practical significance of English and Mongolian proverbs’ origin, characteristics and comparatively common used rhetorical method and its practical signinficance in college English teaching to Mongolian students. English and Mongolian proverbs have something in common, that is:they are mainly from people’s daily life experience, religious belief or myths and legends, the different point is because of their different environment and the history of life, they have different religious beliefs and different ways of language expression. From the aspact of rhetorical way, in English and Mongolian proverbs used smoothly. In addition, English and Mongolian proverbs have characteristics of philosophical but illuminating life, to provide people with behavioral norms, dissemination of lessons and moral education. In this paper, the author gives detailed analysis and comparison between English and Mongolian languages and cultures, and the author of this paper elaborated accurately the translation of English Proverbs into English Teaching in Mongolia group of college students from four aspects on the basis of relevant teaching theories and the practical significance of Mongolian proverbs:first, Mongolian and English proverbs are particular about its rhyme, so it is easy to read or recite; second, English proverbs show flexible sentence structures, which can derive similar- structured sentences from the sentence structure of a proverb. One can put this point into the grammar teaching. It not only can make the boring grammar teaching become interesting, but also can enhance the impression of this kind of proverbs,which help students to remember both the proverb and new learned sentence well; third, Mongolian and English proverbs have something in common. Such as, they share rich connotation and profound story background. So in the course of explaining the text, introduction to the related proverbs and comparison between Mongolian and English proverbs will enable students to have a strong interest in learning content, which is convenient for students to understand; and last, during the teaching process, one can put the rhetoric into the teaching based on the comparison between Mongolian and English proverbs to promote students to learn various rhetorical devices and encourage the students to learn to do comparative study to the language of English proverbs and proverbs in their mother language.In short, Mongolian and English proverbs are full of meaningful, beautiful languages, and diverse and useful structures. It will be good to use it effectively and reasonably in University English teaching to Mongolian students.
