The Rethinkinging Of The Phenomenon Of Wangshuo

As a writer of his own phenomenon, Wangshuo is hard to be defined with the multiple and splitted meanings. As a symbol of comlicated Chinese society during the period of transion, the phenomenon of Wangshuo provides a point of penetration for many significant themes around 1980s and 1990s, such as market economy, popular culture, intellectual, humanistic spirit. Along with the double changes of time and social historical condition, the rethinking of the phenomenon of Wangshuo has its specific meaning. This thesis is consisted of three kinds of rethinking:the rethinking of its formation, the rethinking of the related discussion, and the redefinition of Wangshuo and the phenomenon itself.Firtstly, the literary creation of Wangshuo, the Filim Year of Wangshuo in 1988 and the populartiy of The Desire in 1990 are taken as three breakthough points, so the origin of the phenomenon of Wangshuo could be illustrated. The phenomenon of Wangshuo could be explained as the product of the combined product of the writer and the time. And the uniquity is that to some extent, the phenomenon of Wangshuo has become part of our spirit, other than limited in the field of literature or film.Secondly, the content is unfolded around the diffferent kinds of evaluations of the phenomenon of Wangshuo during discussion of the humanistic spirit in 1993. Deeply related with the promontion of Chinese commodity economy in 1987 and the transition of domestic marketization, the phenomenon of Wangshuo becomes the target of criticism of the proliferation of commercialization.In the end, the two completely contradicted points of veiw, kitsch and the avoidance of sublimity, could be rethough and analysed with backgroud of social transition, therefore leading to their own reasonable and blind points.Thirdly, beginning with the response of Wangshuo to the discussion of humanistic spirit, the embrassing role of Wangshuo could be defined, and then the mixed outlook on literature that born with the survival in a fissure could be analysed. To survive in a fissure, the balance is needed. Once the balance is damaged, then the life style of Wangshuo would step into the danger of vulgarizaiton and be considered as the representative of kitsch. For example, the market economy is no longer dissolvent, but takeing everything into the embrace of money. In this way, Wangshuo might be at a loss with no power of discourse. In the end, his embrassiong role would be no more, and the phenomenon of Wanghsuo is finished along with it.
