In around 1990, visual culture arose in China and became popular soon after. Movies gradually took place of the dominate market of literature. The incisive elite words of the intellectual got suppressed and marginalized. With the impact of visual culture and induction of market economy, Yu Hua, who used to be a pioneer, began to abandon his elite words stand. He accepted and tried to learn the visual culture and showed signs of internalization. Yu Hua started from learning visual culturein form and literature, internalized it and finally got stuck in consumption time and worked in a way of merchandise production. This article focuses on in a context of visual culture, what changes has taken place in artistic merit, narrating arrangement and aesthetical character of Yu Hua’s work. The serial changes in production, transmission and acceptance of the novel text and their corresponding new artistic merit and aesthetical character are also investigated. This article is mainly to elaborate that we should keep our mind open for visual culture, writers should absorb and make use of the new techniques and artistic skills from visual culture and take a step further to expand the creative space of the novel.In the meantime, writers should also get rid of the negative effect of the commercialization and consumerism.
