The project is a report on an English-to-Chinese translation practice. The source text is selected from a book named Flora and Ulysses:The Illuminated Adventures, which is a children novel written by a famous American writer Kate Dicamillo. So far, there has been no Chinese version of this book. The translator has translated the first twenty chapters which mainly tells a story of the little hero Flora who rescued a little squirrel sucked into a vacuum cleaner, and gradually found the little squirrel’s super power.The source text of the translation report is children’s literature, so the target readers are children. Compared with the adult readers, they have great differences in many aspects, such as age, psychological cognition, social experience, knowledge level, reading ability and so on. The children literature is characteristic of vivid and plain language, positive and interesting content. Under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics Theory in accordance with the characteristics of children’s literature, the translator employs such translation skills as addition, restructuring, conversion and division in order to solve the difficulties during the translation practice.The report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction which briefly talks about the background, the significance of this translation project and the structure of the report. The second chapter introduces the book and its author. The third chapter is the main part of this report. In this chapter, the preparation work, the difficulties, the guiding theory, the translation strategy and the translation skills are presented. The last chapter sums up what the translator has learned from this translation practice.
