With the rapid development of Teaching Chinese as Second Language in the world, the proportion of youth children are increased. In this case, preeminent textbooks are more needed. It is the Chinese characters that are one of the important aspects in Chinese teaching. Not only for the foreign primary youth children, but also for local Chinese students in China lower grade elementary school. There are the study of teaching practice and theory of characters and textbook compilation of characters that are behind the study of Chinese phonetics, vocabulary and grammar. However, the study of character teaching in lower grade elementary school in China is very mature. The thesis focuses on the textbooks that one is for the foreign primary youth children, and the other is for the Chinese local elementary students. The thesis compares with the two kinds of books on their teaching objects, Chinese component teaching, the choice of character quantity and character categories, character practice, the way of phonetic transcription and the method of teaching in character recognizing and writing. From the comparison, the advantage and disadvantage of the two kinds of textbooks will be seen. So the foreign primary youth Chinese textbook can borrow something good from the local elementary Chinese textbook.
