A Research Into A Jinling Adherent Poet Of Ming Dynasty—Gu Mengyou

Gu Mengyou was a famous poet of Jiangnan from late Ming Dynasty to early Qing Dynasty,and he was an important member of the restoration association in the late Ming Dynasty and the key figure of adherents in Jinling in the early Qing Dynasty as well.In late Ming Dynasty,Gu Mengyou inherited the literary tradition of his family,devoted himself to promoting elegance of poetry in Jinling area.He traveled and made friends in Jinling in the late Ming Dynasty,leading the mode of Jingling School. After the perishing of Ming Dynasty, Gu used his own house as adherents social place. His poems became gloomy and sad, and mostly expressed the mood of adherents. This thesis introduced the human environment in Jinling and Gu’s family background, social intercourse and poems, present the image of Gu, as a central character in adherents in Jinling.In the introduction, the author provides information about Gu mengyou, and his research in some monograph since the beginning of Qing Dynasty.In the first chapter, the author sorts out the unique historical and cultural source of Jinling, and its human environment in the late Ming and early Qing periods. He discovered the reasons of great amount of adherents of the former dynasty in Jinling in this period, and paved the way for the introduction of Gu mengyou.In the second chapter, through testing Gu mengyou’s family and characteristics, the author explored the reasons why Gu could become the central character in the adherents in Jinling. What’s more, through arranging the social intercourse between Gu and adherents of Ming Dynasty, the author describe the circles of friends in Jinling in this period.In the third chapter, in the basis of the analysis of Gu’s poems, through analyzing his lyric poems, separation poems and poems on drinking in “A Collection of Poems of Gu yuzhi”, he explores the psychology of adherents in Gu’s poems.In the forth chapter, in the basis of analysis of the style of Gu’s poetry, the author discussed the influence of the state’s perishing in his poetry. Through analyzing the poems before and after the state’s perishing, and comparing his and that of other adherents, the author discussed the change of the style of Gu’s poems and testifying features of Gu’s poems. Besides, the author also introduced Gu’s inheritance of the spirit of poetry’s history in the course of Gu’s learning of middle and late period of the Ming Dynasty.
