With the surging demand for international communications, simultaneous interpreting(SI), as a vital form of interpretation, is used more and more in the meetings, international summits, the congress, symposiums, seminar, forums or the panel discussions. As a global forum, the WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM(WEF) has undertaken to promote the status of the global private and public sectors by organizing top level meetings and conversational conference annually. Since 2006, the WEF has published The Global Gender Gap Report each year to track down global gender gap data and provide information for the global public on how well countries have been promoting gender equality in public and private sectors. Therefore gender issue has been brought up to the table on the principal list of global issues by the WEF Annual Meeting 2014. This interpreting report is based on the practice of simultaneous interpretation for the panel discussion on the theme of Gender-driven Growth in the WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM(WEF) ANNUAL MEETING 2014.This report is composed of of three parts. The first part is the introduction. The second part is the main body of the report and the third part is the conclusion. The introduction part gives a general introduction to this practice of interpreting task. There are three chapters in the second part in which the first chapter has three subsections. This chapter firstly introduces the definition and characteristics of Conference Simultaneous Interpreting, its difference with Consecutive Interpreting, its operating system, some basic principles and rules for the interpreters and basic requirements for the interpreters. The chapter explains the reasons for choosing the panel discussion as the interpreting task, and its background and rationality. The chapter also introduces the knowledge of the speakers’ relevant background, the feature of the speaker’s language, and thinking pattern in order to be familiar with their accents to better predict the content of their discourse. The chapter introduces the process of glossary making as well. Chapter Two describes the whole process of the simultaneous interpreting. Firstly, it introduces the arrangements of the panel discussion and the psychological preparation on the day of the interpreting. Then it discloses a series of problems encountered in the interpreting work for the panel discussion. Chapter Three analyzes the quality of the interpreting task by the overall evaluation of the information accuracy and omission, interpreting blank, etc. Based on the principles of syntactic linearity, three notional words and complete sentences, this chapter adopts three practical strategies of SI to do the case analysis. The three strategies employed are amplification and simplification, conversion of part of speech and prediction. From the case analysis of the simultaneous interpreting task, the inadequacy of the interpreting and weakness of the interpreting capability have been found. This is very helpful in the future to deal with the same issues and it can lead to a clear direction for further improvement. The final part is the conclusion.
