Simultaneous Interpreting Based On The Theory Of Syntactic Linearity

As we all know,a series of electronic products such as smart phones and smart watches are playing an increasingly important role in people’s lives,and they have become an indispensable part of modern society.Meanwhile,with the continuous advancement of related technologies,many people are no longer satisfied with the current products,and have a great interest in the latest development of new technologies and products.So,to understand the latest development in these fields,they pay more attention on the release conferences of new electronic devices,among which Apple’s release conferences have attracted the most public attention.Many Apple fans in China often choose to stay up late to watch Apple’s release conferences in order to get the latest news,but they may not understand English.This is exactly the time when simultaneous interpreting fits in.As a form of interpreting,simultaneous interpreting is a challenge for the interpreter’s comprehensive abilities,especially for the interpreter’s effort coordination.With the continuous development of interpreting and simultaneous interpreting,many theories have emerged,making the field of interpretation increasingly complete.Based on syntactic linearity,one of the most representative theories in the field,this report conducted a simulation interpreting practice about the keynote speech of Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2018.It should be mentioned that some contents were hard to process during the simulation interpreting process,so the author sorted and listed them as examples.Meanwhile,in view of these difficulties of achieving syntactic linearity,this report introduced and adopted the corresponding techniques to improve the quality of his interpreting practice.This report attempts to figure out how to apply syntactic linearity theory to practice.It also tries to find out and solve the author’s problems and deficiencies that emerged in the interpreting process through case analysis.The ultimate goal of this report is to enhance the author’s interpreting ability and comprehensive quality through reflection and summarization of this simulation interpreting practice.This practice finds that syntactic linearity and simultaneous interpreting are indeed inseparable.The problems in this practice indicate that the author needs to improve the corresponding capabilities in many aspects.This report also finds that sufficient practice must be done so that an interpreter can finish the simultaneous interpreting successfully and use relevant theories flexibly.
