In July 2015,at the 128 th meeting of the International Olympic Committee,Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. With that,Beijing will be the eleventh city to host the Olympic Games twice and the first to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Games. To win the bid for such an international multi-sport event, translation and interpreting played an important role to facilitate communication. The analyzing material for this research is Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games Candidate City Presentation. This thesis attempts to do a comparative analysis on the differences between professional interpreters and trainees when they use Syntactic Linearity in E-C simultaneous interpreting. It’s hoped that this research could give some useful suggestions for trainees. The analysis is divided into two parts: segmentation and cohesion.Suggestions given are based on professional’s interpreting and analysis of trainees’ interpreting. The analysis reveals that,in terms of when to segment, the professional interpreter is more willing to wait, while trainees seem to be in a hurry and put much focus on closely following the speaker. In terms of the length of a segment, trainees’ segmentation is shorter than that of professional’s.For trainees, when segments become longer, information loss is very likely to occur. In terms of cohesion approaches,in professional’ interpreting version, segments are linked less by linking words, but more by minor adjustments or integration between segments and also language feature(like parataxis of Chinese). As to the approaches used by trainees, the most frequently and also the best used cohesion approach is repetition. They also use pronouns more often than the professional interpreter does. When it comes to linking words, once trainees start to use a word or an expression,it’s most likely that they repeat it in the following even when the segments are already well linked without it.
