A Practice Report On Interpreting At 2014South African Tourism China Trade Workshops

With the development of globalization, the importance of language is increasingly highlighted. International Conferences and Exhibitions are one of the important ways for international exchanges, thus translation work as a bridge between two languages, plays a crucial role.This practice report is based on the consecutive interpretation of 2014 South African Tourism China Trade Workshops. The workshop was organized by the South African Tourism, which provides a platform for the cooperation between South Africa and China’s tourist industry. Many South African representatives from the tourist industry shared their latest travel information and tourism products. I have finished the translation work of Village & Life successfully. Being able to participate in this level of the exhibition, have exercised our overall quality and exposed our weaknesses and also, it allow us to know the exhibition, and has laid the foundation for future translation tasks.This practice report consists of three parts. Introduction, content and conclusion. The first part introduces the background of this report and some skills. The second part is content, it divides into three chapters. Chapter one introduces the status quo of exhibition interpretation and the intention of this practice report. Chapter two describes the interpretation task including the background information, preparation and the whole process. It also analysis of the interpretation process through certain examples, which elaborate the difficulties faced during the process such as preparation, regional accent and interpretation etiquette, etc. This part also contains the discussion of the advantages and disadvantages in interpretation process. Chapter three is a summary of the whole process and rethink of some avoidable mistakes. Several suggested methods in improving the interpreting skills are also mentioned. The last part is conclusion, it describes what I got in this practice.The overall quality of the interpreter affects the quality of interpretation in significant measure. As students of MTI need to strengthen their professional skills, also focus on practice, so as to develop their capabilities in all aspects of appearance, etiquette, resilience, psychological quality and cultural understanding, etc. Only in this way can the students to become qualified interpreters.
