A Practice Report On Simulated EC Consecutive Interpreting Of "The Tourism Promotion Of A Tourist Agency From Chicago"

This thesis is a practice report based on the simulated consecutive interpreting of “Tourism Promotion of a Tourist Agency from Chicago”, with the topic of “Cooperative Project between Chicago Tourism and Beijing Tourism”. This report is characterized with tourism terminology, professional abbreviations, and long sentences with complicated numbers, which leads to lots of challenges to the author.The author analyzes problems in the practice generated by difficulty in listening, limited vocabulary, numbers due to deficient knowledge of the language, as well as limited professional knowledge and weak cross-cultural awareness with respect to insufficient extra-linguistic knowledge under the guidance of Daniel Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension C=KL+ELK+A(Comprehension=Knowledge of Language + Extra-linguistic Knowledge + Analysis). Based on Gile’s Interpretation Comprehension Equation, the author does many researches that combine the Equation with practice in the report. With the help of Equation:Comprehension=Knowledge of Language + Extra-linguistic Knowledge + Analysis, the author analyzes the specific problems and presents the strategies--improvement of language competence, development of cross-cultural awareness and improvement of number interpretation.Lastly, the author illustrates the importance of the enhancement of proficiency and the accumulation of extra-linguistic knowledge and improvement of number interpretation. The author presents this report in the hope that it can help the interpreter complete the task well.
