During teaching in College of International Education, Central China Normal University (February 2014-June 2014),the author was responsible for the teaching of the course of Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, The author found that students are very discontented with illustrations in the book, That students rely on the large number of professional image which added by teacher in the process of teaching to understand the contend of the text. This phenomenon has rose the the author’s attention on the relationship between illustration and teaching. According to reviewing a number of related domestic and international studies, the author found that in 70’s of 20th,this question had already been focused in western countries and extended the study to teaching materials. However, domestic research relatively lagged behind. As a result, the dissertation selects the illustrations in teaching materials which was ignored in past as its theme, and hope to set forward several practical proposals through the study.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is theoretical preparation which is the first chapter of the full text, " Introduction ",this part is for determining the definition illustrations, introducing the theory and the important terms. First, based on the concept of " illustration ",the author has summarized the scope of the study and held the paper’s rage in drawings, pictures, images and artwork. Then starting from the theory of illustration effects, the author has showed the impact of illustrations in textbooks on learners and indicated the significance. Finally, the author has introduced the research profile of the illustrations study abroad and research methods to determine the direction of the study illustrations.The second part is the data acquisition and analysis. This part has been separated into Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. Chapter 2 has set the attention on Statistics and Analysis of the number of illustrations in Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, Chinese for Science and Technology—Reading and Writing. Chapter 3 has been focused on illustration style contrast in Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, Chinese for Science and Technology—Reading and Writing. In the second chapter, the author has mainly used data classification, collection, tabulation, contrast and other relebant data to analyze the illustrations of the two textbook. In the third chapter, on the background of the literature research, combining with the content of the text books, the author has compared the subjective feelings on the design and layout between the two books.The third part is the recommendation for selecting textbook illustrations, as well as the reflection of the ways for setting illustration in textbooks. This part has been separated into Chapter4, Illustration configuration recommendations of Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, Chinese for Science and Technology— Reading and Writing and Chapter 5,illustration application for Chinese course books, The fourth chapter is for giving appropriate illustration recommendations based on the two books of Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, Chinese for Science and Technology—Reading and Writing. In the fifth chapter the author has applied from the illustrations analysis and recommendations of Chinese for Western Medicine—Reading and Writing, Chinese for Science and Technology—Reading and Writing to proposes some ideas for illustrations setting style in other Chinese textbooks.The fourth part is "Conclusion" This chapter has summarized and reviewed the main content of the full text, at same time,pointed out the problems and deficiencies.
