Research In Workplace Novel

With the deepening of the modernization process, profound changes are taking place in all aspects in our country, for example, society, economy, culture and etc..Economic system transformation has brought rapid development of market economy. On one hand, changes in the economic structure led to a new career field appears, which directly led to the rapid rise in the middle class represented by white-collar elite. On the other hand, the prosperity of the cultural market in turn introduced commodity mechanism to literature, and many publishers discovered the tremendous business opportunities in workplace literature. Workplace novel came into being in this background. This paper classifies workplace novel into the research system of genre novel and, using the research method in popular novel, conducts systemic and comprehensive analysis of novel genre rose in last ten years.This paper generalizes the context characteristic of workplace novel from three aspects of materialized spiritual pursuit, the "chase" competition rule and females in workplace, and reputes that workplace novel focuses on survival status and mental confusion of white-collar in postmodern context and consumer era. In the narrative pattern, this paper holds the opinion that workplace novel tends stylization and homogenization, while the double narrative of workplace and emotion is attracting growing number of readers, it is limiting workplace novel to dig deeper soul of the character and reveal the survival anxiety of white-collar due to similarity in story mode. From modern background and demand of public reading, this paper analyzes the reason of workplace novel rising and further, combining with the situation of disordered cultural market, points out the dual drawbacks of aesthetic and market operation existing in workplace novel. Hence, this paper calls the return of literariness and poetics in novels by improving authors’ quality, specifying publishing market and etc. and investigates the long-term development of workplace novel.
