Children’s literature exerts an invisible influence on the healthy development of children, helping foster their outlook on the world and life. Currently, the translation of foreign children’s literature in China has achieved some development, but still fails to meet the reading demand of the children. Translators of children’s literature need to exhale the old thoughts and inhale new ones. They should not only understand the characteristics of foreign children’s literature to study why it attracts the attention of children but also pay attention to translation strategies by analyzing the similarities and differences between different languages so as to better serve target language readers.Firstly, based on the current translation situation of children’s literature both at home and abroad, the thesis introduces the translator’s difficulties and relevant solutions on studying the reader’s response theory of Eugene Nida and translating The Wind in the Willows. Secondly, under the guideline of the reader’s response theory, this thesis tries to study strategies, such as addition and deletion, and annotation, on the translation of English children’s literature so as to draw attention of target language readers, enable them to appreciate the work as well as the source language readers, and help them learn some knowledge in an easy way. At last, the thesis concludes with some new thoughts on the translation and the meaning as well as the shortcomings of the writing.
