This paper is a translation report based on the English novel Big Love in a Small Town. Kate Goldman is a romantic woman writer in America. Each of her novel shapes a confident, forceful and optimistic woman who holds to her dream and love, without fears and giving up when she faces difficulties. All these images represent the author’s hope and pursuit to beautiful life. It is a love novel that can help people purify their mind and bring them strong happiness. On the other hand, as a translator, I would like to translate beautiful words, which is a kind of enjoyment and also a kind of contribution. It is our duty to translate something beautiful and common to people. The commonest one may not be the easiest to translate. Ⅰ like to translate sweet and happy words to people, for these common things are closest to our common life. The thesis is based on the theories of reader’s response theory and interpretive theory, to discuss the translation strategies and difficulties met in the translation. In the report, there are three main chapters. Chapter Ⅰ is a brief introduction to the project, including the author, her work and the whole project. Chapter Ⅱ is a description of the translation process with two main parts:translation preparation and description. Chapter Ⅲ is case analysis, which mainly shows translation of different stylistic features, translation skills and difficulties in translation. About translation skills, there are two points, reorganization in Syntactic level and literal and free translation in textual level. Difficulties in translation mainly include three aspects, the translation of the tone of the figure, cultural background and the translation of figures of speech. The last one is a systematical conclusion to this report with the gains in this translation, hoping to provide reference for this kind of translation.Among those, the translation process in Chapter Ⅱ and the case analysis in Chapter Ⅲ are the main parts of this translation report. Chapter Ⅱ mainly shows the whole process of translation, including before translation, in translation and after translation, which is a complete analysis of the translation process. On the other hand, case analysis is mainly to show specific difficulties met in translation and skills and methods to solve these difficulties through analyzing different cases. Through the analysis of the translation process, there are some personal opinions and ideas about translation in the end, which are the result of the test of practice and a applying of our knowledge learnt at school.
