In November 2014, the author worked as interpreter in the program issued by the Agricultural International Cooperation Project Management Center of the Agriculture and Husbandry Department of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Mr. Zhu Xuefeng, the director of the Center, and three American experts as well as the workers from the Sunjiatan Hay Compression Base mainly discussed the standard operation and maintenance procedure of the machine.This is an interpreting practice report based on this practice. The report first describes the interpreting task, introducing the process of pre-task preparation and interpreting process. Secondly, in line with case studies, the report conducts a detailed analysis on the factors affecting listening and comprehension in the process of E-C interpretation and their impact on the output of interpreting. For example, understanding barriers caused by inadequate preparation of technical terms and the background knowledge, poor quality of interpreting output caused by lack of bilingual competence. Thirdly, the report puts forward strategies to enhance the capabilities of listening and analysis, such as transition from listening for the word to listening for the meaning, identification for the main idea, summary practice, association and prediction skills. Finally, the author hopes that through a comprehensive assessment of the interpreting practice, this report further summarizes the deficiencies during the practice so that she could avoid similar mistakes in the future. Besides, the report also provides a reference for other interpreters beginners.
