The course book, as the basis of teachers’ teaching and students’ learning, provides the teaching content as well as considerably affecting the result of teaching and learning. In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, a good course book always serves a significantly vital purpose in the whole teaching process, but especially has always been seen as the weak link of teaching process and the heavy difficult point for Chinese learners out of sinosphere-- Chinese characters. Because the Chinese characters that are different from alphabetical language and the Chinese leaners acquisition characters of “learning Chinese with text”. The Chinese teaching pay more attention to the early stage Chinese comprehensive course book with following questions: how to compile the Chinese characters section, how to make the learners get over the fear of difficulties and how to let the learners lay the foundation of Chinese characters. It is high time that we take effective measures to solve the problems.New Practical Chinese Reader, at present, is the one of popular Chinese comprehensive course book in the Chinese teaching, and its innovative and typical Chinese characters compilation is worth making further study and analysis. Based on the existing research about Chinese comprehensive course book,this thesis,being divided into three parts,is going to make deeply analysis about the New Practical Chinese Reader‘s Chinese characters section,and to find the book’s advantages and disadvantages about Chinese characters’ content and theory compilation. Based on this, the thesis will also give some advices and revelations to the furture compliation of Chinese comprehensive course book, especially about its early stage.
