Through the analysis of 468 characters in new practical Chinese Reader 3,4 in accordance with Shuowen Jiezi,this paper makes classification of the form of these Chinese characters and statistics of the original meaning of them.Combined with the analysis of the usage of the characters's meaning,original meaning,extended or borrowed meaning,from the perspective of the characters'meaning,some corresponding teaching suggestions about characters teaching are proposed.Chinese characters are a form of ideogram.The basis of the formation of Chinese characters---pictogram are ideographic.Self-explanatory characters,associative compounds and phonogram,deriving from pictogram,are also ideographic.So there is an inevitable relationship between the form and the meaning of Chinese characters.With the analysis of the characters by six categories of Chinese characters,putting forward teaching suggestions from the perspective of the characters' meaning is feasible.The main parts of this paper are as follows:The first part discusses the significance of the research and the related research.According to Shuowen Jiezi,Ziyuan,and other tools,the second part classifies the structure of these Chinese characters and analyzes the original meaning of the 468 characters,dividing these characters into pictogram,Self-explanatory characters,associative compounds and phonogram.The third part analyzes the extended or borrowed meaning of the new characters in New practical Chinese Reader 3,4.According to the results of the analysis,the 65.6%of 468 characters in the textbook use extended or borrowed meaning.In the fourth part,according to the statistics and analysis,the corresponding teaching suggestions are put forward.Through the analysis of the above chapters,we can see that characters,in New practical Chinese Reader 3,4,using the extended or borrowed meaning significantly more than those using the original meaning.To characters using the original meaning,this paper puts forward picture showing method,action demonstration method and correlation method.To characters using the extended or borrowed meaning,this paper puts forward the tracing guidance method,association method and comparative method in characters' form and meaning.
