Postal stamps as the universal equivalent in circulation have been developing forone hundred years. In more than a century stamps are constantly changing the face ofthem with the social culture and the development of science and technology.Nowadays, stamps are not just used for daily postal exchanges, but they also play animportant role in spreading the culture. It is an important symbol of the country socialand cultural communication and also the comprehensive display of the country’spolitical history, science and technology, art and literature and other different aspects.However, communication between people rely more on high-tech equipmentsuch as computers and mobile phones, since the new century has arrived. In the faceof digital products and the impact of new media, the traditional mail has graduallyfaded. The role of stamps in the postal circulation also weakens. The stamps in theaesthetic value and cultural connotation are analyzed as an important kind of popularart form, which provides theoretical basis for the creation of the design from the angleof memorial, collection and appreciation in the future.Based on this, this thesis in the first place analyzes the stamps of some relatedtheory and reviews the stamp design development at the present situation at home andabroad. It also summarizes the basic elements of stamps and design points; analyzesthe traditional stamp design features, respectively from the traditional stamps ofexternal forms and internal cultivation; sums up the general design rules of traditionalstamps. The conclusion is based on the analysis of the characteristics of traditionalstamp design, with the development of modern stamps shown by the culturalconnotation and aesthetic value of the new exploration. It reveals a new era in thedesign of the stamp in innovative research on all aspects of the subject idea, style,form, printed materials, etc., obtained contemporary stamp design should inheritexcellent traditional stamps. Take the essence to the dregs, it will be able to reflect thecharacteristics of the era of culture and art, science, technology and information. Allof them should be actively used in the creation of the stamps. At the same time, wealso should take the initiative to try a new material which can make the stamp art nolonger on a paper. It can be woven, cotton, carved or solid. The spreading of thestamps is taking full advantage of the development of modern science and technology,keeping up with the changes of the times.This study is based on the analysis of stamps related theory, fully tap the stampsworks of aesthetic value and cultural connotation to supplement the existing study ofstamps, to provide certain theoretical basis for the future development of stampsdesign. The stamps can be adapted to the development of the time and be realizedsustainable development of the design of the stamps.
