Thought has a great impact on language while the latter is the result of the former, and they have an indivisible connection, as a result, the study of language and itsactivity (i.e., translation) usually can start from the difference in thought patterns.Legal language is more precise, concise and classical than ordinary language, therefore, it has a closer connection with thought patterns. This requires that moreattention be paid to the influence of thought patterns during the process of legaltranslation. This translation report is based on the translation of three English loan contracts. The report analyses the translating strategies from the difference of thought patterns. The first and second section provide a brief introduction to the background oftranslation and four thought patterns, i.e., spiral thought and linear thought, subjectivethought and objective thought, dynamic thought and static thought, integral thoughtand individual thought. The third section, based on the aforementioned differences inthought patterns and the principle of legal translation, addresses specificallytranslating strategies drawing on the examples from the loan contracts. The last section comes to a conclusion of this report, after analyzing the differences inthought patterns beneath the surface of words, that the translated texts will be muchmore natural, and closer to the readers’ reading habits, and consequently, readers willgain a similar image as with the original texts.
