In recent years, as a new branch of science, dance project in sports colleges and universities has become pretty scenery for its particular artistic fascination. During the process of adapting to the development of society, choreographers keep adding sports elements into the creation of dance repertories in order to make dance project’s advantage more prominent. As a result, those dance repertories are endowed with unique features of sports colleges and universities. This thesis will deeply explore the features of sports theme dance repertories innovation and the application of innovative orchestration methods and will provide gleaming basis for these repertories’composition of sports colleges and universities in the future.This article employs approaches of document literature, video recording, expert interview, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics and others to observe and analyze dance repertories in2012sports festival of national sports colleges professional performances and other sports theme dance repertoires of Beijing Sports University, offering reference information with collected data.The result proves that:1) Sports theme dance repertoires are composed by choreographers by different means in order to integrate sports elements with repertoires. They shape sports related dance characters by analyzing, extracting, organizing, processing, deducting and other methods to express inner feelings of people and to explain sports spirit.2) There are several influence factors of sports theme dance repertories in sports colleges and universities:social environment, philosophies of leaders of sports colleges and universities, professional levels of dance project students, integrate abilities of dance directors, encouragement by competition systems, capital investments, supports from all departments.3) Themes of sports theme dance repertories are partial to skill dominant sports using sports equipments. By increasing ranges of motions, simplifying process, reducing paces and other methods, sports motions are converted into dance motions.4) Choreographers can combine sports elements with the original styles and features of dances to make figurative and symbolic sports pictures by taking advantages of formation changes.5) Choreographers make use of transplant, combination, association, reverse four ways to achieve goals of dance repertories innovation of sports theme.6) Sports theme dance repertories should be based on general innovations of theme, manifestation, motion, music and formation. Dance is the foundation while sports are the light spots. It should be created from sports to add highlights to sports art creation.
