In the information age, China has frequent exchanges and communication with other countries. Interpretation becomes irreplaceable. On occasions like political dialogue, technological cooperation and economic cooperation, interpreters take full advantage of their familiarity with different cultures and languages to help the two sides communicate effectively. The author first illustrates the point that translation is communication in its nature. Then the5W model, which was proposed by Herold Dwight Lasswell, is introduced to analyze the five communication factors of press conference interpreting: who, says what, in which channel, to whom and with what effect. In the analysis, the author refers to real cases and proposes pragmatic strategies from three aspects: how to deal with emotional elements, how to process information and how to adapt to media features. The innovation of the thesis includes using representative concepts and theories derived from5W model to explain the foundation and rationality of the interpretation strategies. The realization that translation is communication provides interpreters with a broad view and helps them evaluate interpretation comprehensively. Many concepts and theories of communication are meaningful for interpretation study and also provide new perspectives for translation study in the new era. Achievements and progresses made in communication and other areas should be properly applied in interpretation study to promote fast development of its theory and practice.
