The choice of translation strategies and methods has always been one of the main concerns for translators. If the right decision is made, the translation process will be much smoother. The skopos theory emphasizes that methods are determined by the aim, which offers the guidance for translation. The text translated is chosen from the memoir Life Itself written by Roger Ebert, a well-known American film critic. The paper adopts case study as its research method, and discusses the translating methods of proper nouns.A lot of proper nouns like the names of TV shows, films, magazines, newspapers and some places in the text have brought many difficulties in translating. In the translating process, the author finds that the translation is accepted only if it can be understood by the reader. In other words, the aim of translation is crucial.
