This paper is based on the translation practice of From Sand and Ash written by Amy Harmon.The author mainly narrates the tragic experience of Italian Jews during the Second World War.In doing this,the translator hopes to raise the reader's reflections on peace,religion and human nature.This novel is profound in thought,delicate in language and fascinating in plot.The translator feels it is necessary to translate this wonderful novel and share it with everyone.The novel involves many characteristic words and sentences,such as proper nouns,humorous sentences,sentences containing religious allusions,a large number of short sentences and parallel sentences.Therefore,in the process of translating this novel,the translator adopts such strategies as transliteration,negation,annotation,combination and literal translation.This paper consists of three parts: introduction,the main body and conclusion.The introduction part presents the value and significance of the translation of the novel,points out the problems in the translation of historical novels in recent years,and puts forward his own innovation.The main body consists of three chapters.The first chapter introduces the background knowledge of the novel,the language features and the main idea of the novel and the translation theory.The second chapter,the author presents his preparation,translation difficulties encountered in the process of implementation,and the final review process of the paper.The third chapter is a specific analysis of the difficulties in the translation of novel in line with Skopos theory.In conclusion,the translator points out his unsolved problems and elaborates on his inspiration and reflection on the writing process of this thesis.Meanwhile,the author hopes that the completion of this translation practice can provide some referential cases for the translation of similar themes and provide some references for the translation of historical novels in China.
