The source text of the translation is the book The Fiery Trial:Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery, which is written by a famous American historian Eric Foner and published by W. W. Norton&Co.This paper is composed of a translation report and a translation practice. The translation report is a summary for the translation practice, and the translation practice is an10000words English and its Chinese translation The translation report is from the chapter one of The Fiery Trial:Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery.In this report, I have checked a lot of information about the author Eric Foner and his writings, knew his language characteristics to aim the translation goal, and used the functional equivalence theory as the theoretical guidance for this translation task. The report mainly consists of four parts. The first part is a brief introduction to the translation task, including the source of the translation and the notes of the book and the author. The second part is a simple description of the translation process. The third part, the most important part of the paper, discusses the translation methods of the translation task and the last part is a conclusion of the translation practice.
