This is a translation project, the original text of which comes from Eric Foner’s book----the chapter four of The Fiery Trial:Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery. The Fiery Trial:Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery is a non-fiction history book, which beautifully and precisely describes the inseparable relationship between Lincoln and the America slavery in an vivid and overall version. This book won the Pulitzer Prize, Lincoln Prize, and the Bancroft Prize in2011. The extract of the fourth part places extra emphasis on the struggles and changing attitude towards to the slavery of Lincoln during late1850s. This translation project bases on the Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene Nida, try to make a systematic research and conclusion from the aspect of translation practice, and sums up some practical translation methods and strategies.
