With the Chinese language becoming more popular and welcomed, the number of Confucius Institute is increasing accordingly. Because of the lackness of overseas Chinese teachers, Hanban has selected a big amount of volunteers, and trained them to become short term teachers in Confucius Institutes. Overseas Chinese volunteers are playing an important role in promoting the understanding of Chinese language and culture around the world, therefore have become an important part of the teaching faculty in most of the countries. However, what we can’t ignore is that most of the overseas volunteers are new to teacher tasks, who have to confront the complex situation abroad all by themselves, as well as to build up their career and capacity growth during the one year, as well as to promote the growth of self-occupation in a short time. However, if the novice teachers do not know how to access and use the basic laws of professional growth, this great opportunity for self-improvement would probably be wasted. Furthermore, a considerable number of overseas volunteers won’t choose to engage in TCFL industry after their internship. Without the proper guidance for career, when the romantic career fantasy encounters ran into the reality during the internship, it is likely that the volunteers would decide to leave this industry even before graduation. It is not only a waste of educational investment by the state, but also a pity for the professional construction of TCFL teachers. Therefore, attention should be called upon the career growth of the overseas volunteers models for the future development of our volunteers should be seriously designed. Learning more about the career growth of overseas volunteers and finding out a solution for their career obstacles has some practical significance for the improvement of Hanban’s personnel training system. This is the meaningful way to realize the value of the educational investment and to strengthen the TCFL faculty.This study takes the overseas Chinese volunteers in Confucius Institute of Barcelona as an example. According to interviews on the experiences of this one-year internship and the analysis of their teaching journals, this year is divided into three basic phrases:virtual concerned phrase, survival concerned phrase and task concerned phrase. Virtual survival phrase, including the training period by Hanban and the adaptation period before teaching tasks began in Confucius Institute; survival concerned phrase begins from volunteers step on the podium and start administrative works in the secretariat, concerning on the skills for teaching and administrative work; task concerned phrase is gradually adapted to the pace of work at Confucius Institute, when the role of teachers and volunteers have gained progress.With the analysis and summary, we discovered the main issues for the overseas volunteers are role-Orientation, intercultural communication and adaptation, teaching and living adaptation. These key issues accompanied our volunteers throughout their whole growing process, but they each had different influences in different phrases. The way to solve these problems directly affects the strategy of the professional growth and development of overseas volunteers. By comparing different strategies of solving key problems of volunteers, we analyzed and explored the internal factors that played a key role in the growth of overseas volunteer career. Meanwhile, it is important to compare and summary how the external factors influence the growth of the overseas hinese volunteers.Last but not the least the suggestions on the reaining and self.growth for the overseas Chinese teachers are proposed for the overseas volunteer internships,Confueius Institute, Hanban and volunteers themelves should promptly adjust themselves and establish a plan on career development;internship institute should improve the system of training novice teachers and establish a fair and objective evaluation system;training institutes,should pay more attention on the building of faith in teaching profession,and more emphasis on career development and follow-up should also be given priority.
