Khitan is an ancient ethnic minorities in the north of China, Khitan people havebeen living in China’s northern grasslands and making a living by nomadic since thefourth century. This article will make analysis and investigation on the nomadic life ofKhitan people.From the information of nomadic murals in the published Liao dynasty tombsand related relics, We can know that Khitan people mainly herd horses, cows, sheepand camels, different livestock have different social division of labor.The yurt andrehicle are their necessities of nomadic life,they have different type and shape in orderto adapt to all kinds of environment,in this article I will list and analysis the functionof them.According to the literature and folklore materials we can know that Khitanpeople’s nomadic pastoral system can be divided into two kinds,one is four seasonsnomadic,the other is two lands nomadic.In the process of nomadic,Khitan herdsmenneed combine with the natural environment to choose the nomadic camps. Vesselswhich Khitan people daily use is closely related to the nomadic life, the main featureof their vessels is easy to carry.
