As the advancement of international exchange and cooperation, there areincreasing numbers of people who study Chinese and who are interested in Chinese.However, the number of foreigners who study English well and understand Chinesemindset has not been boosted. This reveals the lack of intimacy of language teachingand cultural teaching in the Chinese-teaching as a foreign language. Therefore, it isincumbent to develop well-qualified cultural teaching points in the class.Peking opera is a combination of Chinese traditional virtues,wisdoms,artsessence and cultural deposit. It is a mix of arts beauty and traditional spirit, which is aperfect carrier to study Chinese cultural deposit.It is a mix of arts beauty andtraditional spirit, which is a perfect carrier to study Chinese culture. The paper aims toenrich the techniques in the intermediate level teaching of Chinese as a foreignerlanguage by designing the course of Peking opera performances, in order to advancethe possibility of the juxtaposition of language and culture.This paper first introduces the current situation in Chinese-teaching as a foreignlanguage and proves the possibility to apply Peking opera performing teaching in theChinese teaching. In the next part, the paper researches on the principles of applyingPeking opera’s teaching and the selecting and arrangement of teaching content. Thefollowing part is targeting on the specific episode of Mental Battle, systematicallyanalyzing its teaching resources, class types and teaching objectives and ending with adesigning plan for teaching.In teaching, by generalizing research results, trialepisodes are selected to apply them in the real teaching, consisting of four basictechniques in traditional operas, which are singing, reciting, acting and martial artsperforming. The aim is to enable students to get a profound understanding of Chinesespirits and cultural essence. The last part analyzes the gains and regrets in operateaching. The particle attempts to fully make use of Peking opera, improve learners’ study passion and language skills, enrich their Chinese cultural knowledge to betterappreciate Chinese essence and better use Chinese by means of new modes ofthinking.
