| The theme of this study is the formation of onomatopoeic words in modern Chinese.This paper studies on the formation of onomatopoeic words in modern Chinese fromthe perspective of consonants, vowels and tones. The natural sounds are divided intotwo kinds: oral sounds uttered by living beings, non oral sounds of non-living beings.We call them oral onomatopoeic words and non-oral onomatopoeic wordscorrespondingly.For oral onomatopoeic words, the author study the relationship between the vocalorgans of human and animals and the vocal organs of pronunciation of onomatopoeicwords to prove the connection between modern Chinese Onomatopoeic words andvocal sounds. For non-oral onomatopoeic words, the author will demonstrate therelationship between non-oral onomatopoeic words and non-oral sounds on the basisof "vowel loudness order" and "consonant hardness level". The conclusions are asfollows: there are inevitable relation between modern Chinese Onomatopoeic wordsand natural sounds which is confined by Chinese phonetic system.Grasping the formation of onomatopoeic words in modern Chinese provides atheoretical basis for creating new words. With the emergence of new things, theexisting onomatopoeic words will not be able to meet the need of expression, whichrequires the creation of new onomatopoeic words to deal with this situation. And theformation of onomatopoeic words in modern Chinese just provides a reference tocreate new words. Therefore,knowing the formation of onomatopoeic words inmodern Chinese can really makes difference for developing students’ Chinese andpromoting teaching Chinese as a second language. |
