| Onomatopoeic words are sound-symbolic lexical items that are used due to the need of imitating different sounds of animate and inanimate nature.Languages differ from one another,and onomatopoeic words of a certain language also submit to its phonetic,semantic,grammatical and syntactic systems.The paper is devoted to the problem of multi-dimensional analyzing the functional features of onomatopoeia in modern Russian and Chinese languages.The author distinguishes and describes the characteristic features of onomatopoeia which belong to different semantic classes: the class of imitations of sounds produced by animals,the class of imitations of sounds produced by man and nature,and also the class of sounds produced by inanimate nature.The relevance of the research topic is due to the need of a comparative analysis of the functional characteristics of onomatopoeic sounds at the semantic,phonetic,grammatical(such as word formation)and syntactic levels.The paper consists of the introduction,four chapters,conclusion and the supplement.Its function is to identify and analyze the similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese onomatopoeic words.Chapter One includes the introduction,which contains the review of the previous researches on the topic.Besides,the author explains the purpose and the significance of the present research,and defines the term “onomatopoeia”.Chapter Two studies the classification of onomatopoeic words based on its semantic meaning in Russian and Chinese languages.Chapter Three deals with the functional characteristics of the onomatopoeic words at the phonetic level.Chinese phonetic system differs from Russian phonetic system in many ways,since these two languages belong to different linguistic groups.Moreover,the written form of Chinese language is based on the characters,which means further restrictions.In this chapter,the author analyzes the features of the sound system in modern Chinese and Russian languages,the phonetic structure of the onomatopoeic words,the connection between the sound of the word and its semantic meaning,etc.Chapter Four reviews the types of word-formation processes of the onomatopoeic words in modern Russian and Chinese languages: affixation,composition,conversion,etc.Russian onomatopoeic words have a strong capacity for word formation,as well as Chinese onomatopoeic words also can become the material for producing new words.For this reason,through the analyzing the similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese onomatopoeic words from the perspective of word-formation abilities,the author gained a deeper understanding of grammatical features of the onomatopoeia.Chapter Five explains the similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese onomatopoeic words at syntactic level.In Russian language,the verbs,nouns,adjectives and adverbials produced by onomatopoeic words occur more frequently than onomatopoeic words in its prior shape.In Chapter Five the author raises the issue of the cognate words in Russian language,which can be confused with the onomatopoeic words,and deals with the syntactic abilities of the onomatopoeic words in its prior shape in modern Russian and Chinese languages.Chapter Six includes the conclusion,based on the main results of the present research.We have analyzed onomatopoeia in Chinese and Russian languages on the semantic,phonetic,grammatical(such as word formation)and syntactic levels.Most of the researches are focused on distinct aspects of the problem,it was therefore necessary to conduct a complex analysis of this topic.The practical value of the paper is the use of the preliminary results in future studies,especially while researching a matter of translation from Russian into Chinese language and from Chinese into Russian language. |
