| The original texts of this English-Chinese translation task come from finance andeconomics column of The Economist. Thus, all of the selected articles belong to newsreport and they are all connected with finance and economics. The translation practicereport focuses on two parts: the translation difficulties appeared in the articles and theapplication of Functional Equivalence in translation. In chapter four, the translatorillustrates the translation examples from three aspects: abandoning the concept of lexicalcategory, using the concept of kernel sentence and conversion strategy to overcome thelimitation of sentence structures, and adapting the isomorphism theory to overcome thebarriers from social culture.The fundamental purposes of this translation practice can be summed up from threeaspects: firstly, it can help Chinese readers obtain the latest economic news; secondly, thetask can help us to enhance bilingual reading ability; thirdly, the author’s translationcompetence can be greatly improved by accomplishing the task. It is the first time that theauthor translates articles about finance and economics, and the author accumulates someexperiences for translation activity. |
