The Economist is a famous English economic magazine. In 2006, its average weekly circulation was reported to be 1.5 million, about half of which were sold in the United States. Although it is also sold in China, there is no official Chinese version of the Economist. Many readers read the translation version of the Economist online. This is a report on English-Chinese translation practice. The source text is selected from the finance and economic sector of the Economist from March to November in 2014 with 24 articles in total. The articles are all translated by the author of the thesis. Guided by the Skopos theory developed by famous translation theorist Hans J. Vermeer, the author aims to solve the problems and challenges emerged in the translation processes, improve the quality of translation and offer some strategies for other translators. The report is organized as following: Chapter One introduces the background of the translation report, project description and the organization of the thesis. Chapter Two presents the information of The Economist and analyzes the articles from the finance and economics sector of The Economist. Chapter Three presents the Skopos Theory proposed by Vermeer and discusses and translation strategies. Translation strategies can be generally divided into two groups, namely lexical strategies and syntactical strategies. Lexical strategies contain keeping the literal meaning of words, zero translation and modifying the literal meaning of words. Syntactical strategies contain following the original sentence order and not following the original sentence order. Not following the original sentence order consists of adding and deleting, Dividing and Combining, restructuring, negating.
