Labor novels appear in the year of 1920 is a kind of participation literature which describe the structural contradiction under the Japanese colonialist domination and reflect labor movement and socialism in contemporary Korea. This paper analyses labor novels written by Li Beiming under the Japanese colonialist domination in Korea, includes author career, literary creation and the development of labor novels. This paper is based on the combination of general morphology of proletarian literature and particularity of novels written by Li Beiming, proves the legitimacy of labor novels and the literary significance of Li Beiming’s novels.Chapter two analyses Li Beiming’s life, the basic situation and literary creation under the Japanese colonialist domination from the 1920’s or 1930’s, and the time characteristics and literary creation after liberation. Li Beiming truly describes labors’miserable life at that time. He takes his experience as a worker in factories, harsh environment and class struggle according to class contradiction as materials, reflects world outlook of labors and people.Chapter three discusses labor novels of Li Beiming and its development trend. This chapter includes two parts, the author firstly describes labor experience and the proletariat’s struggle before liberation, then analyses realism creation and labor characters creation after liberation. "Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant", Li Beiming’s maiden work, sublime reality to literature, describes the miserable fatalism of labors who work in harsh environments for a long time under the Japanese colonialist domination. His another novel, "Labor’s Family", which is considered to one of the best short story after liberation, describes ideological struggle between the new and the old, labor emulation and technical innovation, reflects the labors’ enthusiasm of nation construction after liberation.Chapter four discusses the literary significance of Li Beiming’s novels. Features of biography exist in all his works. Firstly, Li Beiming describes in detail in the factories, and reflects class contradiction and national contradiction during the colonial period before liberation. Secondly, he novelizs experiences. The aesthetic significance is revolution ideas and realistic features of proletarian literature. Thirdly, the feature of works after liberation is consciousness dominant.Li Beiming joins proletarian literature movement since he enters literary world in 1930’s. He created many labor novels based on his own experiences before liberation. After liberation, he created new works with new methods under socialist system. The consistent characteristic of his works is to reflect labors’life and social problems in different period based on his experiences.Li Beiming is the first one to create labor figures in labor fields on democratic construction period in the history of Korean literature. This is a new turning point of his literature and the history of Korean literature after liberation.
